Our Environmental Credentials

at+m integrated marketing becomes the first business in Launceston to install a solar hot water system

at+m integrated marketing were proud to hear that we are the first business in Launceston to install a solar hot water system. You may remember that in November 2007 we were awarded a grant through the CleanBiz Tasmania Grant Scheme. In late February Manion Plumbing installed the Solahart hot water system, replacing 3 conventional electric hot water systems. The new environmentally responsible hot water system has become the sole source of hot water to all areas of our business and we expect a 92.8% reduction in the cost of hot water heating. We will monitor and report on the energy savings as part of our Environmental Dashboard.

Design - Inside the mind of a graphic designer

There are several important stages within the design process of any project. Here, our graphic designers take us on the journey of how a design is conceptualised and the path it takes as it evolves.

The first, and arguably the most important, part of the process is the design brief. This is where the expectations and results required by the client are conveyed to the designer. A good design brief is essential for us to understand the desired motives and outcomes, and even visual or design preferences.

The second stage is research. It is useful for us to investigate the client and their industry, history, and competitors. Valuable insights can be gained by having an understanding of how a company originated and its functions, as well as what their competitors are doing. While designs are never duplicated, an approach or attitude may help decide what sort of style the design should take on. For example, whether it should be corporate or fun, contemporary or historical.

The next step is conceptualising. This is where the design concept(s) start to be developed around the brief and research. This is the hardest part of the process to explain. Each design is approached almost like a puzzle, where creativity, communication and visual appeal must come together to fit the initial brief, as well as suit the target audience.

After conceptualisation, an internal presentation takes place. This is where the design is discussed and critiqued by the creative team to make sure we feel that it has met the brief. Only after these steps have been taken is the design presented to the client.

The next stage is when we receive feedback from the client. Generally if the design brief is strong and accurate this will mean that the design will just need minor adjustments and fine tuning.

at+m integrated marketing enters Tasmanian Environment Awards for Excellence

There's exciting news for us on the environmental front. We have recently submitted an application for the 2008 Tasmanian Awards for Environmental Excellence in the Small Business Sustainability category. Coordinated by the Tasmanian Government and judged by representatives of the national Banksia Environmental Foundation, these Awards recognise and reward contributions to the enhancement, preservation and protection of the Tasmanian environment, and in 2008 are celebrating their 10th year.

We have chosen to enter the awards because we are now in a position to demonstrate with hard data the projects our business has in place to help minimise our environmental footprint. Through the introduction of our business wide Environmental Management System, and the uptake of our Rethink® printing processes, we have managed to reduce our chemical use by 20%, trade waste by 41% and our entire output of waste by 39% of our 2005/06 benchmark. What's more, we recycle 97% of all our waste. The industry standard is only 59%. In addition to these process optimisations we have completed a number of specialty projects such as ducting of the machinery heat for assisting the air conditioning and installing a solar powered hot water system.

As first time entrants of these Awards, we feel confident as our achievements are clear, and through our innovative practices we are setting a strong example for our industry and the community at large. Judging will take place during April, with the winners announced at the Minister's Dinner at Wrest Point on 30th May 2008.

Australian Government Greenhouse Challenge Plus Programme

at+m integrated marketing on the way to becoming carbon neutral

Our Environmental Management System requires that we set a number of objectives and targets to ensure a process of continual improvement. All of these targets have been met over the past 18 months and now new objectives and targets must be set. One of the new objectives for our business is to reduce or offset our carbon emissions and become carbon neutral.

Becoming carbon neutral is a simple way in which we can all contribute to solving climate change, by taking responsibility for the carbon dioxide emissions we create with our car, flight, and energy use. The Greenhouse Challenge Plus is an initiative of the Federal Government and enables Australian companies to form working partnerships with the Government to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. That's a big plus for business and for all Australians.

Bon Appettite - a taste of the good life

Bon Appettiteat+m integrated marketing were delighted to be a major sponsor of the exciting new event called "Bon Appettite" held at Rosevears Vineyard, on Sunday March 2nd 2008. Members of the public were invited to spend an afternoon tasting gourmet foods and fine wines, while sitting back and enjoying great views and live music. It was just like a mini Festivale.

All proceeds from the event went to St Giles, to assist with making a difference in the lives of Tasmanian children and adults with disabilities. As a long time supporter of St Giles, we were happy to sponsor this worthy event by designing and printing the event's posters, vouchers and advertisements.

The event was deemed an amazing success with over 200 people attending and raising nearly $5000 in valuable funds. See you at the next one!
